ONE GOOD THING: OECD’s Government at a Glance 2025
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) just published the latest edition of Government at a Glance, a flagship report from the public governance division that comes out every two years.
Report: Government at a Glance 2025, OECD, 19 June 2025.
Press release: Governments should strengthen public trust by improving efficiency, citizen engagement and access to public services, OECD, 19 June 2025.
LinkedIn post: Rebuilding trust and delivering prosperity: A governance agenda in uncertain times, Elsa Pilichowski, Director, Public Governance, 19 June 2025.
Here are some excerpts from the Executive Summary, but the whole ~250 page report is worth a look:
Governments today operate in a high-stakes environment marked by profound demographic, environmental and digital shifts compounded by relatively low levels of trust…
Navigating these issues will require governments to focus on three fronts: enhancing individuals’ sense of dignity in their interaction with governments, restoring individual and collective sense of security in the face of rapid societal and economic changes, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government to boost productivity, while restoring public finances…
Governments need to focus on enhancing citizens’ trust that institutions and officials act in the public's interest, are accountable, and give people a voice in decision-making.
